GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball went 3-1 in their 4 contests this past week, with wins over Phoenix College, Park University Gilbert JV, and Arizona Christian University JV. The Gauchos end the month of January with a 5-1 record.
Monday January 26th at Arizona Christian University JV
Hayden Smith went 1-for-4 with a home run, but the Gauchos fell to the Firestorm, 5-4 on Monday. The Gauchos combined for 4 hits in 33 plate appearances and left 20 men on base. ACU attacked first, plating 3 runs in the first inning. The Gauchos grabbed 1 run in the top half of the 2nd and 3rd innings. Lucian Dixon, Brody Ghanbari, Trey Butler, and Brock Berlan all had a stolen base in the contest.
Tuesday January 27th vs Phoenix College
Logan Leavitt's home run led the Gaucho offense at the plate, leading the Gauchos to a 8-7 victory in 13 innings against the Bears. Leavitt was 1-for-6 for the contest with 2 RBIs. The Gauchos had 9 hits, in 46 plate appearances for the contest. 6 different Gauchos recorded an RBI for the game, and 3 different Gauchos had a stolen base. GCC used 7 pitchers for the game, with Jackson Kirby claiming the victory. Kirby pitched 2 innings in relief, striking out 1 batter and allowing 2 walks in the 9 batters he faced.
Wednesday January 28th vs Park University Gilbert JV
Six different players recorded a hit as the Gauchos defeated Park University Gilbert JV in 6 innings, 10-0. Parker Staheli threw 4 scoreless innings, striking out 2 batters, and claiming his second win of the season. 5 different Gauchos recorded an RBI in the game, including 2 from Brayden Bullard. Bullard went 1-for-3 in the contest and scored a run. Lokan Folino struck out all three batters he faced in his lone inning in relief. The Gauchos had 7 hits in 22 plate appearances for the game.
Saturday January 31st vs Arizona Christian University JV
Nomar Topete's 2 RBIs led the Gaucho offense at the plate in the victory against Arizona Christian University JV. The Gauchos scored 6 runs and had 7 hits in 30 plate appearances. Aydin Chippindall struck out 5 of the 14 batters he faced, allowing 1 run on 3 hits to earn his first victory of the season. The Gauchos' bullpen struck out 5 batters and allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 6 innings of relief. Josue Malave went 1-for-3 with 1 walk and 3 stolen bases for the contest.
The Gauchos will begin the month of February with a home game against Phoenix College on Tuesday, February 3rd before starting conference play at the end of the week. First pitch for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 2 P.M.
