PHOENIX – The Glendale Community College women's soccer team reached the halfway point of the season on Friday afternoon with a straightforward 6-0 road win against GateWay Community College. The Gauchos improve to 4-3-0 on the season with the victory.

Glendale opened the scoring in the third minute, forcing a turnover from the Geckos in the final third before Taylor Olness fed Damaris Samora, who then shook a defender and rocketed a shot into the corner for a quick 1-0 lead. The Gauchos continually poured forward but were denied on multiple occasions – including a shot off the post – before Kiera Gonzalez attacked a Mia Robles cross late in the half and made it 2-0 by beating the keeper to the ball. In the frantic final seconds before halftime, Glendale made it 3-0 with a corner kick that was not fully cleared by GateWay and punched home by April Ramos.

The second half was a continuation of the first as Glendale produced multiple chances and cashed in three more times. A free kick that was misplayed by the GateWay keeper led to a Jaidyn Rowles tap-in five minutes after play resumed. The aggressive play of the Gauchos then produced a Kylie Hutson goal in the 63rd minute as she ran in towards goal and deflected an attempted clearance from the Geckos into the back of the net. The scoring was finished off by Gonzalez both drawing a foul in the 18-yard box and then converting the subsequent penalty to put the finishing touches on the 6-0 win.

The Gauchos finished the day with 24 total shots, putting 18 on target. Angie Galvan had five of those shot attempts, with Daleina Egea producing four others. Mayra Kruk and McKenna Jackson split time in goal, each making one save in the combined shutout.

Glendale faces another road test on October 7, facing Paradise Valley Community College beginning at 1 p.m.
