GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Glendale Community College women's soccer team had its perfect 3-0-0 start to the season come to an end this past week with a pair of defeats at Pima Community College on Tuesday night, 7-1, followed by a 4-0 loss to Scottsdale Community College at home on Saturday evening.
In Tuesday night's match, Pima grabbed a 3-0 lead in around the first 25 minutes before a penalty in the box allowed Damaris Samora to slot home a PK in the 36th minute to make it 3-1 at the break. The score stayed right there for much of the second half before Pima pulled away late, scoring in the 72nd, 75th, 86th, and 89th minutes. Three goalkeepers saw action on the night for the Gauchos, with Grace Hurley playing 42 minutes and making eight of the team's 10 saves. Jaidyn Rowles finished with three shots, two of which were on frame.
Coming back on Saturday, Glendale played a solid match against a talented Scottsdale team, but a pair of long-distance efforts in the first half sailed high out of the reach of Hurley in net to stake the Artichokes to a 2-0 halftime lead. The second half was a similar story to the Pima match, with Glendale remaining resolute in defense much of the way before some late goals pushed the match out of reach. Scottsdale was able to add goals in the 72nd and 84th minutes to provide the final 4-0 margin. Hurley once again made eight saves in goal while playing 70 minutes. Samora and Rowles combined for four of the Gauchos' six shots on the night.
Now 3-2-0 on the year, Glendale travels to take on Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Sept. 23 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
