Women’s Soccer Dominates Gateway in Season Opener

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Glendale CC women's soccer team began its 2025 season on Saturday evening with a convincing 5-0 home win over Gateway CC.

The early portions of the contest favored Glendale and finally resulted in a goal in the 13th minute when a foul was called on Gateway and Mia Robles converted a penalty kick to put the Gauchos on top. Seven minutes later, Glendale doubled its lead when Robles assisted Taylor Olness off a corner kick.

Before the teams went to the halftime break, Glendale added a third when the ball pinged around the 18-yard box and was ultimately headed home by a Gateway player for an own goal that made it 3-0 at the intermission.

The Gauchos were rarely challenged in the second half, though it took until the late stages to extend the lead. Robles notched her second assist of the night in the 77th minute, helping out on a curled effort from Jeannete Vazquez into the top corner. With less than three minutes remaining, a centering pass from Bryanna Carranza found Kylie Hutson for an easy finish to make it 5-0.

Glendale ended the match with a 21-3 advantage in total shots, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal. The Gauchos also had 14 corner kicks to zero for the Geckos. Mayra Kruk went 78 minutes in goal before giving way to McKenna Jackson for the combined shutout. Damaris Samora led Glendale with five total shots on the night.

The Gauchos are back home on Tuesday, starting at 5:15 p.m., hosting Paradise Valley CC.
