GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College men's track had a strong showing at the inaugural Gaucho Indoor Invitational meet this past weekend, with multiple athletes setting new personal records (PRs) across a variety of events.
Cory Beckman, Linkin Dyer, and Kenneth Hill all competed in the men's heptathlon for the event, with all three Gauchos setting PRs in various events during the weekend. Beckman set new personal bests in all 4 events that took place on Friday, including a 7.12 second time in the 60 meter dash, 5.65 meters in long jump, 10.63 meters in shot put and 1.72 meters in the high jump. Beckman's efforts placed him 2nd in the 60 meter dash and shot put events, 4th in the high jump, and 8th in long jump. Linkin Dyer finished 7th in the 60 meter dash, 6th in the long jump with a personal best of 5.70 meters, 12th in the shot put, and 10th in the high jump. Kenneth Hill finished 9th in the 60 meter dash, but did post a personal best time of 7.47 seconds. Hill finished 12th in long jump, 3rd in shot put, and 6th in high jump. Beckman ended the heptathlon in 4th, with Dyer and Hill finishing in 9th and 10th place respectively.
Tyreeq Jones and Jalen Bradford finished first and second in the men's 60 meter dash, with a 0.06 second differential between the two of them. Jacoby Lamar finished 4th and Jhalyin Palmer finished 8th in the event. Jones also took the top spot in the men's 200 meter, with Palmer, Lamar, and Bradford taking spots 3 through 5. Victor Jarrett finished in 7th place, and Matthew Baskin just missed the top 10, coming in at 12th place. Cole Carpenter (47.37) and Zion McCray (49.60) each set personal records in the men's 400 meter event. Carpenter finished 2nd while McCray finished 7th. Seth Bohon and Marques Mayorga finished 7th and 9th respectively in the men's 600 meter event. Mayorga recorded a personal best with a time of 1:23.61. Bohon finished 9th in the men's 880 meter event later in the day with a time of 1:56.68.
Nicholas Delgado finished 13th in the men's 1 mile, with a personal record time of 4:49.98. Tabian Bailey finished 2nd in the men's 3000 meter event, coming in with a time of 9:14.02. Jacob Villanueva set his personal record in the men's 5000 meter, finishing at 16:21.38. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Zion McCray, Roman Zamarron, Jalen Bradford, Aejaie Horbert finished 4th on the day, with a time of 3:29.42, just under 12 seconds off the lead time.
Micah Carter finished 5th in the men's long jump, with his best jump at 6.61 meters. Luigi Vargas and Brian Rolley came in 10th and 11th in the event, with Vargas setting a personal best at 6.31 meters. Noah Brezina set his personal record for the men's shot put event, finishing in 11th with a 12.88 meter mark. Isaiah Packer finished 17th with a 11.92 meter mark in the event as well. Brezina did take the top spot in the men's weight throw, setting a new personal best with a 16.52 meter mark, over 0.5 meters from the second place finisher.
The Gauchos will be in Flagstaff for the NAU Tune Up Meet on Friday, February 20th before heading to the NJCAA Indoor Nationals on March 6th and 7th.
