Men’s Soccer Shut Out at No. 1 Phoenix College

PHOENIX – The Glendale Community College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 road loss to No. 1-ranked Phoenix College on Saturday night. The loss slips the Gauchos to 8-3-2 on the season ahead of the regular-season finale.

Though Glendale played Phoenix tight last month in a home match that the Bears eked out, 4-3, things were different as the Gauchos went on the road. Things were scoreless for the first half of the first half, but Phoenix broke things open with goals in the 24th, 28th, and 41st minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Phoenix added a fourth goal in the 63rd minute to make it 4-0. Glendale keeper Eli Anderson was lifted at the water break in the second half and Gavin Smith finished up the match in goal, but the Bears tacked on one more score in the 80th minute to reach the final margin.

Anderson finished with two saves on the night, with Smith adding one more. Jordan Yesenski and Logan Henley paced the offense with two shot attempts each.

Glendale returns home to host Mesa Community College on Monday evening at 7 p.m. in a match that was postponed due to weather and field conditions two weeks ago. The Gauchos go into the night as the No. 3 seed in the ACCAC and can lock up that position with either a win or a tie, or a loss or a tie by Scottsdale Community College as the Artichokes face Phoenix College.
