GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College men's basketball came up just short Wednesday night, falling to South Mountain Community College, 68-65. The loss moves the Gauchos to 16-9 on the season, 7-7 in ACCAC play. With 4 games remaining in the regular season, the Gauchos currently sit in 3rd place, one game ahead of Mesa and Scottsdale.
Malaki Garnica led the Gauchos in scoring for the evening, finishing with 21 points on 8-of-13 from the floor, and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Garnica, a freshman from Brophy College Prep, also had 3 steals and 2 assists for the contest. Stephan Miller (Liberty) ended with 20 points on 9-of-14 from the field to go along with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Kenny White (St. Mary's) had 13 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds for the contest. GCC shot 43.1% from the floor and had 15 assists on 25 made baskets. The Gauchos had two chances to tie the game at the end of regulation, but failed to connect on both attempts.
Glendale Community College men's basketball will return to conference play next week on Wednesday, February 18th, when they host Mesa Community College. The Gauchos and Thunderbirds have split the season series with both teams winning their home games. Tip-off for Wednesday's contest is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
