MESA, Ariz. - Glendale Community College men's basketball came up short against Mesa Community College Saturday afternoon, falling to the Thunderbirds 93-89. The loss moves the Gauchos to 14-6 on the season, 5-4 in ACCAC play.
All 5 starters for the Gauchos finished in double-figures, with Stephan Miller leading the way. Miller, a freshman from Liberty high school, finished with 20 points on 8-of-14 from the field and 13 rebounds. Malaki Garnica (Brophy) ended with 17 points and one steal. Kaleb Conley (Boulder Creek) had 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Kenny White (St. Mary's) and Ty Gibbs (Shadow Ridge) combined for 27 points and had 11 of the Gauchos' 17 assists for the game. The Gauchos shot 47.1% from the field, and 39.1% from beyond the arc, but were out scored in the paint 54-44. The Thunderbirds out-rebounded the Gauchos 33-24 and shot 63.9% for the game.
Glendale Community College men's basketball returns home this Wednesday, January 28th, when they host 5th ranked Pima Community College. The Aztecs are first in the ACCAC and come into Wednesday's contest with a perfect 21-0 record. In their first meeting, The Aztecs came away with a 105-96 victory. Tip-off for Wednesday's contest is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
