Coach Josh Simonis joins the Gauchos staff in 2025 as the Recruiting Coordinator.
Previously, Simonis coached at Ottawa University Arizona in 2023 and 2024 as an Assistant Coach, where he improved the varsity and developmental program. OUAZ had its best two seasons in program history. OUAZ won 35 games in 2023, which is the most all-time. Program accomplishments include setting school and individual records in many categories, making playoffs for the first time in school history, and being nationally ranked in the top 25 for much of the 2023 season.
He served as a Developmental Coach & Scout for the United Shore Professional Baseball League. He coached several players who continued in professional baseball at both the independent and affiliated level.
He coached at Wayne State University in 2019 and 2020, where he oversaw the infielders for the Warriors. Wayne State Baseball had its best defensive season ever in 2019, posting a .972 fielding percentage. The Warriors won 35 games in 2019, which is the second most all-time. Wayne State finished the season ranked 25th in the nation.
Before coaching at Wayne State University, Simonis founded Premier Baseball in 2014, a travel baseball organization that has developed many college baseball players. He was an intern Strength and Conditioning Coach at Oakland University. He also completed a practicum where he shadowed Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning, Mike Favre, at the University of Michigan.
