Gauchos Split Weekend Set With Lamar

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball split their series with Lamar Community College over the weekend. The split moves the Gauchos to 21-13 overall for the season.

Friday March 13th, 8-7 loss (11 innings)

After battling back and tying the game in the bottom of the 7th inning, the Gauchos fell in the top half of the 11th inning, losing to Lamar Community College 8-7. Six different Gaucho hitters came away with a hit during the contest, with 5 posting an RBI in the contest. The Gauchos had 6 hits in 38 at-bats. They left 21 men on base.

Cody Cooper started for the Gauchos but couldn't get out of the first inning. Rusverd Garcia, pitched 5 and ⅓ innings, giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, striking out 8 of the 20 batters he faced. Bryce Bruning took the loss for the Gauchos, his first of the season. The Gauchos used 6 different pitchers, combining to give up 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits in the 11 innings. They struck out 13 batters for the game.

Saturday March 14th, 12-6 win

The Gauchos took the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lopes 12-6. Lucas Swanson was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs in the contest. Josue Malave and Hayden Smith each had 2 hits on the day, with Malave picking up 2 RBIs and drawing 3 walks. Brock Berlan, Everrett Sanderson, Andrew Shakespeare, Diego Chavez, and Andrew Balian all picked up hits as well. The Gauchos offense had 12 hits in 34 at-bats. They left 16 men on base.

Jackson Kirby started for the Gauchos, going 2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Brayden Bullard picked up the win for the Gauchos, his first of the season, after throwing 2 scoreless innings and only allowing one hit. The Gauchos pitching staff gave up 6 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits, and struck out 8 batters while only allowing one walk on the day.

The Gauchos will return to ACCAC play this week with a midweek series against Mesa Community College. The Gauchos split with the Thunderbirds back in February during their first matchup. The Thunderbirds come into the series with an overall record of 19-14, 11-9 in conference play. Tuesday's game will be played at Mesa, with Wednesday's contest played at Glendale. First pitch for both days is at 11 A.M.
