GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball picked up 2 non-conference wins to start off the week against Monroe Community College. With the wins, the Gauchos now sit at 19-9 overall, 9-7 in conference play.
Sunday March 8th Game 1, 4-3 win (7 innings)
Cayden Cooper went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Gauchos came away with the win in game one of the doubleheader, 4-3. Logan Leavitt and Hayden Smith went 2-for-4 on the day and each scored a run. Lucian Dixon, Lucas Andrews, Lucas Swanson, and Nomar Topete all had one hit in the contest. The Gauchos had 11 hits in 27 at-bats for the day and left 27 men on base.
Bryce Bruning started the game for the Gauchos, pitching 4 innings and giving up one run on 5 hits and striking out 3 batters. Chris Peronace earned the win for Glendale, his third of the season, after throwing 2 ⅓ innings in relief. Xander Schramm got the final two outs for the Gauchos, only allowing one hit to earn his first save of the season.
Sunday March 8th Game 2, 12-6 win (7 innings)
Five different Gauchos had multiple hit performances as Glendale snagged another victory over Monroe, 12-6. Josue Malave, Lucas Swanson, Jorge Lomeli, David Daniels, and Brody Ghanbari all had 2 hits on the day and combined for 8 runs batted in. Everett Sanderson, Lucian Dixon, Andrew Balian, and Jeremy Crawford all had one hit in the game. The Gauchos had 14 hits in 29 at-bats and left 16 men on base.
Joseph Stevenson earned his first win of the season for the Gauchos, after throwing 3 innings and giving up no runs and only 2 hits. Five different Gauchos saw the field in the game, combining for 6 runs on 3 hits. The staff struck out 6 batters and walked 11 on the day.
Monday March 9th, 22-12 loss (7 innings)
Logan Leavitt went 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs on the day, but it wasn't enough for the Gauchos as they fell to the Tribunes, 22-12. Brock Berlan and Nomar Topete each had 2 hits for the Gauchos. Hayden Smith, Cayden Cooper, Andrew Shakespeare, and Kyson Milne all had 1 hit for Glendale. The Gauchos had 12 hits in 31 at-bats. They left 17 men on base.
Nine different pitchers were used for the Gauchos in the game. Cody Cooper took the loss, his first of the season. Cooper threw 3 and ⅔ innings for the Gauchos giving up 5 runs on 2 hits and striking out 3 batters. The Gauchos pitching staff combined to give up 22 runs (18 earned) on 10 hits. The Gauchos walked 17 batters and struck out 5 on the day.
The Gauchos return to ACCAC play for a quick two game set against Scottsdale Community College today, Tuesday March 10th, and Wednesday. The Artichokes come into the contest with an overall record of 14-13, 8-8 in ACCAC play. Tuesday's game will be played at Glendale, with Wednesday's game being played at Scottsdale. Both games will begin at 3 P.M.
