Baseball Push Past Pumas, Earn Two Victories

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball took home victories both games in their mid-week series against Paradise Valley Community College. With the two wins, the Gauchos now sit at 17-6 overall, 9-5 in conference play.

March 3rd, 11-2 win

Cayden Cooper was 3-for-4 in the contest as the Gauchos dominated the Pumas, 11-2. Brock Berlan, Logan Leavitt, and Hayden Smith were all 2-for-4 in the game and combined for 4 of the Gauchos' 10 runs batted in. Josue Malave, Nomar Topete and Lucian Dixon were each 1-for-3 on the day. The Gauchos had 13 hits in 29 at-bats. They left 7 men on base.

Jackson Kirby took the win for the Gauchos, his third of the season. Kirby, a sophomore from St. George, Utah, threw 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 8 of the 26 batters he faced. Bryce Bruning pitched the final inning, and walked two batters.

March 4th, 3-1 win (10 innings)

Logan Leavitt was 3-for-5 in the contest as the Gauchos complete the series sweep of the Pumas, 3-1 in 10 innings. Leavitt was one of 8 batters to record a hit for the Gauchos, with Leavitt, Cayden Cooper, and Trey Butler all recording multiple hits for Glendale. The Gauchos had 12 hits in 38 at bats, leaving 21 men on base.

Parker Staheli threw 8 innings for the Gauchos, giving up 1 run on 6 hits. Staheli struck out 5 of the 31 batters he faced and did not give up a walk. Chris Peronace snagged the win for the Gauchos, his second of the season. Peronace pitched the final 2 innings, only giving up 1 hit and striking out 2 batters.

The Gauchos will look to continue their two-game win streak this weekend for another ACCAC matchup and non-conference series. Friday and Saturday the Gauchos will face off against Phoenix College. The Bears come into the series with an overall record of 7-16, 5-9 in conference play. Friday's game will be played at Phoenix College with first pitch slated for 3 P.M. Saturday's contest will be played at Glendale with first pitch at 12 P.M. Sunday and Monday will begin a 3-game series with Monroe College. Sunday will feature a doubleheader with the games scheduled for 12 P.M. and 2 P.M. Monday's contest will be at 2 P.M.
