GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball split their weekend series with Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The split moves the Gauchos to 12-4 overall, 5-3 in ACCAC play.
Friday, February 20th, 9-5 loss
Despite four different Gaucho hitters recording two hits for the contest, the Gauchos fell to the Coyotes in game one, 9-5. Brock Berlan, Josue Malave, Hayden Smith, and Logan Leavitt all had two hits for the Gauchos, with Smith and Leavitt driving in 4 of the Gauchos 5 runs on the day. Nomar Topete provided the 5th run, with his solo homerun in the contest. The Gauchos had 11 hits in 36 at-bats and left 14 men on base.
Saturday, February 21st, 5-4 win
Brock Berlan and Logan Leavitt each went 3-for-4 on the day as the Gauchos took the second game of the two-game series, 5-4. Andrew Shakespeare went 1-4 with an RBI in the contest. Diego Chavez and Brayden Bullard each went 1-for-3 on the day. The Gauchos had 9 hits in 31 at-bats and left 16 men on base.
Brady Anderson threw 6 scoreless innings for the Gauchos, striking out 7 of the 22 batters he faced. Parker Staheli picked up his 3 win of the season for the Gauchos, pitching 1 ⅔ innings of relief and striking out 2 batters. The Gauchos pitching staff combined to give up 4 runs on 4 hits and struck out 10 batters.
The Gauchos will return to action on Monday, February 23rd for a non-conference matchup against Thompson River University at home. Thompson River University is located in Kamloops, British Columbia and competes in Canada's USports organization.
