GLENDALE, Ariz. - Glendale Community College baseball started off ACCAC play with a series split against Scottsdale Community College over the weekend. The Gauchos now sit at 7-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
Friday, February 6th
The Gauchos were limited to just 2 hits and 1 run in the loss to the Artichokes on Friday, with the final score 5-1. Hayden Smith and Logan Leavitt had the two hits for the Gauchos, who left 5 men on base and struck out 12 times in the contest. Kyson Milne and Lucian Dixon each drew a walk and stole 2 bases for the contest. Kyson Milne had one walk and scored the lone run for the Gauchos on the day.
Parker Staheli took the loss for the Gauchos, throwing 3.2 innings and giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 2 batters for the contest. Staheli faced 19 batters before Jackson Kirby and Chris Peronace came in to pitch the final 4.1 innings in relief. The Artichokes had 16 hits for the game and scored in the bottom of the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings respectively.
Saturday, February 7th
The Gauchos bounced back Saturday afternoon to pick up their first win in conference play, defeating the Artichokes 7-3. Nomar Topete went 3-for-3 with one walk and one run scored in the contest. Hayden Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Smith also had 2 stolen bases on the day. Cayden Cooper was 1-for-4 with 4 RBIs in the contest after his 3-run home run came in the 4th inning. The Gauchos had 10 hits in 32 plate appearances. They left 26 men on base.
Aydin Chippindall snagged his second win of the season. Chippindall, a sophomore from Chaparral high school, threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and one walk while striking 3 of the 19 batters he faced for the contest. Dominick Maese pitched 1.1 innings, striking out 3 batters and only allowing 1 hit to pick up his first save of the season.
Glendale Community College baseball returns to action on Tuesday, February 10th for a non-conference matchup against Grand Canyon University Club. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M.
